WE HAVE WON! We think we can safely say that the threat of Watermark has gone and with it also the potential of any other large scale development in our District for the foreseeable future. We are keeping the Trust in existence as we shall be following the Local Development Framework closely. We intend to be actively involved with the Council on this and hope that we can continue to count on your support With very many thanks to all our members and sponsors for your support, financially or otherwise. This is what the Panel had to say about Watermark: Quote: There were development sector arguments for increasing the provision for more growth, notably the Orion proposal for a new settlement of some 4,500-5,000 homes in combination with a major leisure facility in the district, we consider the new settlement proposal poorly related to the sustainable development principles of the strategy both in locational terms and in other ways such as its potentiaol impact on the water environment and reliance on car borne commuting |

Following this FHDC issued the following statement: Forest Heath District Council notes the recommendtions of the East of England Panel Reort. We welcome this timely progress with the Regional Spatial Strategy. This will greatly assist the council in its consideration of the Local Development framework - the planning blueprint which will operate throughout the district until 2021. In particular, we are pleased to note that our own proposals for the sustainable growth of the district are supported by the panel's view of the appropriate housing level for Forest Heath of 6,400. The messages we heard throughout the Local Development Framework process were that the Orion proposal was not wanted, nor sustainable. We are confident that the new planning system is working positively and offers a forum for proposals, debate and fully informed recommendtions.
